time ago I'm looking for information on beta versions of Pokémon games, and unfortunately I have found little or no English, thing that has surprised me, with pages as large and comprehensive as Pokéteca or Wikidex.
The thing is, I found several sites in English and other languages \u200b\u200band tried to translate information to share with you all.
So I opened a new section PokÉxtraS dedicated to betas, those versions of games prototype, unfinished, contain features which for some odd reason or another were removed from the original game.
Obviously, I will open the section with versions Red and Green , the first to emerge in Japan.
Perhaps these two are the versions with more information, along with Gold and Plata, on details of the prototype, so I start sharing them now, there's plenty to read.
Capsule Monsters
This project started in 1990 was known internally as " Capsule Monsters," inspired by machines "gashapon" of Japan, these vending machines that award came in a capsule:
The name changed because of problems when registering, so that initially moved to Capumon and then, luckily, Pocket Monsters.
As just said, this game began to be developed in autumn 1990 and was scheduled to be released in December 1991, but a financial problem, there were insufficient funds to continue its development, so " Capsule Monsters "was suspended in early 1992, with almost all the music finished. From there, he undertook to do Yoshi's Story for NES and Game Boy.
The surprising success of Yoshi Story GameFreak helped to recover assets necessary, and in 1993 was voted GameFreak internally whether they should complete the following mind games that change their name to Pokémon, winning the other with 80% of the vote.
In the summer of 1994, continued its development with several interruptions related to money at the same time were developing other games.
Satoshi Tajiri was influenced by the Final Fantasy Game Boy Pokémon devising.
prototype of some Pokemon names
The first thing I'm going to start is with the English names of several Pokémon preliminary. While a number of known these names, I will not mention them all for not boring the article. However, I will mention the ones I drew attention, for example Pidge (for Pidgey) Kokoon (for Kakuna), Sandstorm (Sandslash), Rattatack (Rattata), Foxfire (Vulpix), Blaze (Arcanine) Parasyte (Paras ), Hocus (Open), Pocus (Kadabra), Kara-tee (Machop), Kung-foo (Machoke), Ju-doh (Machamp), Manaty (Dewgong), Spirit (Gastly), Spectre (Haunter), Meduza ( Tangela), Ness (Lapras), Eon (Eevee) or Dragoon (for Dratini).
Some of these names are similar or identical to the Japanese, and more than half were changed, even several of these names seem better than we know today.
Battle against Professor Oak
As you may have noticed, the sprite of presentation of Prof. Oak could be used as a trainer sprite sprite to be similar to other coaches. But the funny thing is that it seems that Oak was going to be a character that we will fight against in the game, something like Red in Gold, Silver and Crystal , since until had scheduled his own team, consisting of Taurus, Exeggutor, Arcanine, Gyarados and the latest evolutionary form Pokémon was not chosen by the coaches (the protagonist and his rival, Red and Blue ).
also appears that the levels of Pokémon Team Oak (between 66 and 70) were even higher than your opponent, the champion of the Pokémon League .
These data also exist in the Yellow version .
battle against "Brock"
The images showed before taking the American version of the game were noted a curious detail to fight the trainers: the presence of "THE" before the phrase "wants to fight, being as" the hiker Wants to fight "," the lass want to fight ", being a consistent manner. However, when dealing with coaches who had their own name (the gym leaders or members of the High Command), this phrase took on inconsistency, since he used to look like "the Misty Wants to fight" or "the Bruno Wants to fight" , as pictured below.
This photo, which belongs to the game manual shows that this detail was fixed at the end of production. Coaches
unused: Chief
One type of coach is not used in the game (as just mentioned by Professor Oak) which is the "Chief." I do not know if it refers to Chief as the "chief" of something, or the Chief as the chef, such as those found in the SS Anne. I would think that at some point thought we could fight against them.
sprite appears that the "Chief" is similar to that of scientists. It seems that is mentioned by one of the soldiers Celadon Rocket, and unfortunately, unlike Oak, there is no equipment designed for him.
unused Coaches: Jacred
Other coach makes his appearance, whose number may vary depending on the player's name, the rival of other variables in the game.
Unlike Oak and "Chef" has no sprite Jacred defined, and to launch the first Pokémon can cause the game to become corrupted.
Female Character
Perhaps some think that Pokémon Crystal innovated with the feature to select a female character to play. But it seems that it is not well, since apparently this feature would be included in these early games, as shown in the artwork below.
It seems that Blue (or Green), the Pokémon Adventures manga is based on it (in fact, as shown in the picture below, a scene from the manga is inspired by the original picture from above ), and drawings notice the similarity and I read somewhere that the sprite used would be the same as that used at the end of the coach, "Lass."
bird Pokémon type
This supposedly was a prototype of what eventually would be the type flying, as flying pokes the first generation all have the form of bird.
MissingNo , for example, is the type bird, as you can see in the picture below.
funny thing is that this type is also scheduled in the second generation games, as the engine of these games are based on the first.
Users in the backpack
there any objects that the player could carry in a backpack bearing the name of the acquired medals in different gyms Kanto , it seems that they were going to be elements that have some type of functionality in the game. I read that the only ones that have a role are the first two medal rock and waterfall, that would rock and bait, respectively, we used in the Safari Zone , so apparently the medals could be used in battle to produce different effects on enemies. To be used outside of combat interesting event occurs, a change of music we hear that tune when Prof. Oak review our PokéDex . Table
Surf
This object I mentioned when I did the review of the hack of Pokémon OIA, based on the Orange Islands .
As I mentioned at the time, this item allows the user to navigate the waters without the need for a Pokémon, which could mean that the MO of Surf there was at first, and thought as an attack, or maybe it was an item created by programmers to facilitate navigation without playing much of the game codes.
Pokémon Battle without
's edition Yellow of these games exist to combat data when the coach does not own Pokémon, in which the escape option would not be "Run", but "Hurry, get away!" Which means "hurry up! Get out! ".
was probably a prototype of the first fight against wild Pikachu that later would be yours, or going even further, a battle against Spearow, as it happens in the anime.
Concept Art
In 2006, Ken's original drawings Sujimori were uploaded to the web, it represents several features that the game itself possess later, as battles, Safari Zone, Red riding a primitive Lapras, Blastoise, Celadon City, Silph SA, and a city with a fountain, which could be Celadon, too.
originally designed few pokes can be recognized as Gastly and Slowbro.
In this picture, right, you can see the sketches of the battle between Gengar and Nidorino you would like presentation of the game.
Mew About Mew write a lot of rumors and myths of these games. But the funny thing is that this Pokémon was included at the latest, and easily may not have been included before.
Mew was put into the game when freed space at the end. The space was used for placing Mew, without any further test, a very risky in the programming world. Music
unused
There is a free music track used in Pokémon Yellow , but not in Azul, Rojo and Green . Is completely unknown what part of the game would go, but has been much speculation that he would be connected with the event without Pokemon battle mentioned above. You can hear the song in this video:
Glitch City
This city and mentioned in section Cheats Pokémon Red / Blue / Yellow , so if you want to know how to access it, you can find the steps in this section.
"Trash City" or "failure Islands" are terms invented by players for this game bug.
The explanation for this bug is that in these games, doors and entrances to caves are encoded as "warps" that are placed on top of the charts for gates or doors. This link has two values, one that specifies that there is a door, the one that specifies the place where the player will be transported.
This fault is generated when the game cheats the player out of the Safari Zone, while the same time is passing, making the end of the time (or last steps) the game is confused and corrupt, and make us totally out on a map damaged, which is none other than any of the known, in this case, Route 17. If this trick is done in the Yellow version, Pikachu will start to behave strangely and their level of happiness was reset.
Another curious fact is that if the player makes the safari zone time runs out in the Rock Tunnel, you can visit the Safari Zone in the dark, as it occurs in the tunnel.
perch on a tree
This glitch could be used as curious trick, but useless, and is cutting a tree Court, placed in the box that corresponds to save the game and reset the game.
When restarting, you can see the player standing just above the tree.
Beyond
have been almost six years in development, many of these were discovered years later by software bugs in the game, which allowed her appearances. Perhaps the best known of these failures is MissingNo, a Pokémon used in the test phases of the game. That's all for now, these are all the bugs and beta trivia games I've found so far and I could understand and translate, in the absence of such material in English.
hope I do not see this information on other pages as it has happened to the picture with PokéRus Houndoom I've seen elsewhere. At least put the credit that I wrote!
We're reading, I hope your comments, and as you know, as you'll discover new things the adding.
Greetings!
